Deaf Culture Presentation: CODA Viviana Guerra & Ana Fernanda Lizarraga American Deaf Culture Residential schools Deaf parents Life partner Little d Deaf American Sign Language = CODA = American Deaf Culture CODA: Belong in Deaf or Hearing culture? Due to the fact they experience both cultures. With them experiencing the Deaf culture, they are not fully in it. Excluded from one side Meaning they do not have the full experience of being in one certain culture.

Giving them the feeling of wanting to be in one certain culture. Although them being hearing excludes them from that. Keeping Up With the Cool Kids CODA's learned how to live the 'Deaf way.' Meaning they use certain habits in the hearing world in their day to day lives.

Ex: waking up their Deaf parents, changing in the dark, turning on lights. Definition of CODA Alexander Graham Bell was the main CODA. Friend or Foe? CODA's are the gatekeepers to the Deaf world. They are translators for their parents, and introduce life of the Deaf culture to hearing people.

This puts them in the middle of both worlds, but never have the luxury of being in one world - which is the Deaf world. Making them outsiders of the Deaf and Hearing world. Impact on American Sign Language The impact of CODAs do have a positive side to to American Sign Language. CODAs are known to being the best interpreters. Reason being why they are the best interpreters is them having a glimpse of the hearing and Deaf world.
